No. 023

Yokohama, October 30, 2014 - Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS) has received an order for two sets of steam turbine and generator for Units 3 and 4 of a coal-fired power plant to be constructed at Limay, the Philippines, by an independent power producer (IPP) under the corporate umbrella of San Miguel Corporation (SMC), a local conglomerate. Each unit will have a power generating capacity of 150 megawatts (MW). In 2013 MHPS also supplied steam turbines and generators for the Limay plant's Units 1 and 2 to Formosa Heavy Industries Corporation (FHI), a Taiwanese company in charge of the plant's EP (engineering and procurement). The newly ordered equipment is scheduled for delivery in April and July 2016.

The new plant will be constructed by SMC Consolidated Power Corporation in Bataan Province in the southwestern area of Luzon Island. Once on stream, the plant will supply power to meet robust demand in and around Manila.

MHPS will supply the steam turbines and generators, the core equipment of the plant, and also provide technical advisory services for installation and commissioning.

SMC is one of the Philippines' leading enterprises. Initially it specialized in the production of beer and other alcoholic beverages, but in recent years the company has pursued diversification of its operations into industries including power and energy, infrastructure (such as expressways), foods packaging and so on. As a result, today SMC has grown into a business group of enormous scale, its roster of group companies including Petron Corporation, a major oil firm.

FHI is the core enterprise in the Formosa Plastics Group. With operations encompassing petrochemicals, plastics, electronic components, transportation, medicine and education, FHI today ranks as one of Taiwan's largest private corporate groups.

In addition to orders for the Limay power station's Units 1 through 4, in 2013 MHPS won an order for two sets of steam turbines and generators for Units 1 and 2 of the Malita coal-fired power station in Mindanao Island constructed by SMC's power segment. The latest order thereby brings six units of steam turbine and generator sets to be supplied by MHPS to the plants under SMC's umbrella in total.

MHPS today integrates the comprehensive capabilities and product operations in thermal power generation systems formerly developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and Hitachi, Ltd., enabling MHPS to supply a full range of products and total solutions relating to thermal power systems. Going forward the company will respond to the increasingly diversified needs of this market as a way of contributing to stable power supplies, to make positive contributions to the economic development of nations and regions around the globe.
