Mitsui & Co. has been selected by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) as a 'Competitive IT Strategy Company', recognizing its efforts to leverage information and communication technology (ITC) to create new value through the reinforcement of current business and creation of new business.

Mitsui & Co. has continued to leverage ICT to create new value in a wide range of industries, across many countries and regions around the world. For its New Medium-term Management Plan announced in May 2014, it established Seven key strategic domains: Hydrocarbon Chain, Mineral Resources and Materials, Food and Agriculture, Infrastructure, Mobility, Medical/Healthcare, and Lifestyle Products and Value-Added Services. Mitsui & Co.is leveraging its comprehensive strengths through these seven key strategic domains, and is driving innovation in high-growth areas by combining these domains with active utilization of ICT.

Additionally, Mitsui & Co. has positioned the ICT field itself as a key area of focus, recognizing growing business opportunities. Through initiatives including making Mitsui Knowledge Industry Co., Ltd. a wholly-owned subsidiary and establishing a new IT & Communication Business Unit, Mitsui & Co. aims to accelerate its presence in the internet, media, and IT services fields, and will utilize ICT to further grow its earnings base by delivering unique business value that only it can create.
