Fire at Osaka Works (5th Report)

On 21st of June, a fire broke at Mitsui Chemicals Osaka Works.

Mitsui Chemicals wishes to express deepest apologies to all of its stakeholders, local residents, related authorities and customers for causing such great inconvenience. Outline of this incident is as follows.

Near No. 2 chimney chamber at utility plant Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. Osaka Works

Damages

Injuries:

None

Facility Damage:

Confirmed at waste gas treatment system & chimneys at utility plant.

No further damage besides the utility plant has been identified.

Cause

It is anticipated that the fire was caught while cutting and repairing the inner lining of the steel chamber and had widely spread as fresh air flew inside during the regularly scheduled maintenance period.

Prevention Measure

We will set prevention measures in order to avoid similar incidents.

None at this moment

Impact to operation of Works

Regarding production facilities that are currently suspended during the regularly scheduled maintenance period, we are aiming to resume operation during August under guidance from relevant authorities.

Financial impact

Under investigation. We will immediately report if any major impact is anticipated.
