Tokyo - May 27, 2016 - Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (Tokyo: 4183; President & CEO: Tsutomu Tannowa) proudly announces that on May 26th, the Group's Ichihara Works was presented this year's Japan Chemical Industry Association ('JCIA') RC Outstanding Award for its outstanding efforts to collaborate with and contribute to the local community.

「Responsible Care」&「Responsible Care Awards」
Responsible Care activities are initiatives started by the world chemical industry to promote voluntary management to protect health, safety and environment from the development of chemical substances, manufacture, distribution, use, final consumption to disposal and recycling, and communicate with the public by openly disclosing in performance in these areas.
Responsible Care Awards are presented by the Japan Chemical Industry Association to corporate divisions, works, groups, or individuals who have contributed to improved awareness and conducted activities supporting responsible care.
Mitsui Chemicals aims to contribute to society by solving social problems through a collaborative effort of economic, social, and environmental concerns. The Ichihara Works, to protect all stakeholders, actualizes safe and stable operations and implements aggressive Responsible Care activities in line with its management policy to protect local communities and their citizens.
Over the years, the Works has continued to implement community activities including, 1) issuance of regional PR magazine and sponsorship of children's sports events, 2) educational support including plant tours for elementary, junior and high school students and the holding of chemical experimental classrooms. The award recognizes these ongoing efforts by the Works to protect and contribute to local communities.
The Mitsui Chemicals Group will continue to promote responsible care activities.

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. specializes in the manufacture and marketing of chemicals products. Net sales break down by product family as follows:
- basic chemicals and fine chemicals products (48.8%): polypropylene, polyethylene, phenols, polyolefins, polyurethane, etc.;
- performance chemicals products (25.5%): elastomers, urethane, polymers, etc. intended in particular for the automotive industry;
- coating materials, films and agrochemicals (14.6%): resins, adhesives, polypropylene films, polyethylene films, industrial films, agrochemicals (insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, etc.) for the food and packaging sectors;
- specialty materials (10.2%): ophthalmic lens materials, photochromic materials, non-woven fibers, dental products, etc. dedicated to the medical and healthcare industry;

Net sales are distributed geographically as follows: Japan (52.2%), China (14.5%), Asia (13.6%), America (11.8%), Europe (7.3%) and other (0.6%).
