On April 1, 2017, Mitsui & Co. merged its logistics service subsidiaries Trinet Logistics Co., Ltd (TNL) and Tri-net (Japan) INC. (TNJ), to form a company operating under the name Mitsui & Co. Global Logistics, Ltd (MGL).

MGL will develop overseas warehouse operations using Mitsui's and foreign Tri-Net bases based on the knowledge from TNL's domestic operations (which includes a 730,000 square meter warehouse in Japan), and TNJ's partnerships with about 110 overseas companies. MGL is developing a global warehouse management system which serves as a universal software cross applied within the group. MGL will also promote IT innovation within the distribution center, including labor saving initiatives, and robotization. As a core of Mitsui's distribution business, MGL will provide a global distribution service in accordance with domestic and foreign customer needs.

From a functional aspect, MGL will work towards the goal of creating a global supply chain with high-value functions that utilize the Group's comprehensive capabilities, including TNL's distribution center operations for consumer goods, and the international transportation services provided by TNJ, along with capabilities in insurance, payment agency service, lease, and logistics facilities development.
