BWSC to expand investment in biomass power generation business in England
-The 6th case in the biomass power generation business in England -
Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S (BWSC, President: Anders Heine Jensen) in Denmark, a 100% subsidiary of MES (President: Takao Tanaka), in cooperation with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), one of the Denmark's biggest pension fund management companies, decided to invest in the electric power sales business in England with a biomass combined heat and power (CHP) plant. This is the sixth case in the biomass power generation business for BWSC and the third case in cooperation with CIP.
The total project investment is 160 million British pounds (approximately 22 billion yen). BWSC invests 20% of the capital and the rest is financed by CIP's investment and intercompany loans.
In addition, BWSC will altogether undertake the business of the CHP plant, including engineering, equipment procurement, installation and construction, and the trial run. BWSC also received an order for a 20-year contract for its operation and maintenance (O&M).
The CHP plant will be constructed on the site of Discovery Park, a science park in Kent County, southeast of London in England. The plant is scheduled to be handed over by the summer of 2018 and to start operations.
The fuel of this facility is wooden chips and its power generation capacity is 27.8 megawatts (MW). This is equivalent to the power consumption of 50,000 households. In addition, we expect that CO2 emissions can be reduced by approximately 100,000 tons per year. The heat and some of the power generated at the CHP plant is directly supplied to Discovery Park.
BWSC conducts consistent business worldwide such as development, construction, and operation management of high-performance biomass, biogas, and diesel power plants. BWSC has delivered more than 178 power plants to 53 countries with a total capacity of more than 3,500 MW.
