MES Establishes After-Sales Service Company for Container Handling Cranes in Malaysia
-Strengthen the global operation system for promoting the 2017 Mid-Term Management Plan-
Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES, President: Takao Tanaka) will establish an after-sales service (repair, upgrade, and sales of parts) Company in Klang, Malaysia in January 2018 for container handling cranes that MES manufactures and delivers.
The container handling cranes that MES manufactures are delivered globally, mainly in Southeast Asia, having sold more than 350 units of Ship To Shore (STS) crane (Portainer®) and more than 1,200 units of Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) crane (Transtainer®).
The Port Klang in Malaysia is ranked 12th in the world (2016) in terms of the volume of containers handled and Westports Malaysia, the largest customer of MES' container handling cranes, handles more than 70% of the port's cargo. This new company will provide after-sales services including the site work for upgrade of electric parts and for energy saving/capability enhancement, and the provision of spare parts/consumable supplies, as demand for such service is expected from Westports Malaysia and other ports in Malaysia.
MES aims to 'improve the added value of its products/services' and 'expand and enhance peripheral services' as the pillars of the strategy in the 2017 Mid-Term Business Plan, which started this fiscal year. This after-sales service company will be set up as part of the 'expansion of business/service areas through the enhancement of the global operation system' and 'provision of customer-oriented after-sales service,' in order to focus on the 'after-sales service business for the growth area of container handling cranes' as a measure for achieving the 2017 Mid-Term Business Plan. MES will expand operations of the after-sales service business for container handling cranes to countries in Southeast Asia in the future, with a plan to make the new after-sales service company a base for deployment of the business.
