Modern Times Mtg : IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship returns to TV3 and Viaplay in 2018

In 2018, 2020 and 2022 the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship will be shown in Sweden exclusively on MTG's linear channels (led by TV3), videostreaming service Viaplay and pay-TV channel Viasat Hockey. Viaplay will also offer the tournament in 2019, 2021 and 2023, when SVT will carry the linear broadcast. As a result, Viaplay will show every game, every year.

In addition, MTG and SVT will jointly broadcast the Champions Hockey League between the 2017/18 and 2022/23 seasons.

'In 1989, led by MTG's founder Jan Stenbeck, TV3 became the first commercial channel to broadcast the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. TV3 and the tournament were then practically synonymous for 23 years, so we're proud to cooperate with SVT to create sporting history once again.'

'We've lived and breathed world-class hockey for nearly 30 years, including an unbelievable 1,300 NHL games this season. It feels like the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is coming home.'

The timing couldn't be better - just a few days ago, nearly 2 million viewers (or 20% of the country's population) watched Sweden beat Canada 2-1 in the 2017 final.
