Monitise plc (LSE: MONI, "Monitise" or the "Company"), a leading global Mobile Money enabler,announces that Stephen Shurrock has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director of the Company with immediate effect.

Pursuant to the announcement of the Company on 27 November 2014, Telefónica and Santander, in connection with their subscription at that time, were given the right, acting jointly, to nominate a single Non-Executive Director to be appointed by the Board of Monitise. Stephen is Telefónica and Santander's nominated Director to the Board of Monitise.

Stephen is CEO of Consumer at Telefónica within the Commercial & Digital Unit. He is responsible for a number of areas including financial services, mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs), advertising, devices, data monetisation and commercial partnerships.

Prior to his current role Stephen was CEO of New Business Ventures in Telefonica Digital where he was actively involved in a number of Telefónica Digital's key successes including the launch of Firefox OS; the development of the TU Go communications app and commercial partnerships with a range of companies including Pinterest, Evernote, Facebook and Google. Before joining Telefonica Digital at its launch, Stephen was Chief Executive Officer of Telefónica Ireland, and prior to that Sales Director for Telefonica UK.

A highly experienced telecoms executive, Stephen initially joined O2 in the UK in 2000 and held a number of senior sales and finance roles. He was responsible for the Consumer Sales Division and managing a team of 4,000 staff encompassing Telefónica UK's high street, franchise, online and indirect channels. An accountant by profession, Stephen has held a number of financial positions across a variety of businesses.

Stephen John Shurrock, aged 43, does not currently hold shares in Monitise. Telefónica holds 42,630,429 ordinary shares in Monitise, representing 2.0% of the voting rights of the Company. Santander holds 108,200,721 ordinary shares in Monitise, representing 5.0% of the voting rights of the Company.
