ST. LOUIS (Nov. 9, 2017) - For the seventh consecutive year, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has named Monsanto as one of its 2018 'Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality'. The distinction comes with the agriculture company earning a perfect score of 100 percent on the HRC's annual Corporate Equality Index (CEI). The CEI is a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Monsanto is one of 609 major businesses across all U.S. industries to earn a perfect score.

'We are honored that Monsanto is once again being recognized by the Human Rights Campaign as an inclusive and diverse workplace where employee differences are embraced, valued and respected,' said Steve Mizell, Monsanto's executive vice president and chief human resources officer. 'As a global company, it's important that our work culture represents the talented 20,000 workers we employ, as well as the customers we serve around the world. We want employees to bring their whole selves to work.'

The 2018 CEI report evaluated businesses in several areas that included non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits and public engagement with the LGBT community.

'For us, creating an inclusive work environment enables Monsanto to recruit and retain talented people who are committed to discovering innovative solutions focused on feeding a growing population,' Mizell added.

Monsanto has long been a champion of equality and diversity. Monsanto ranked No. 39 on DiversityInc's 2017 'List of Top 50 Companies for Diversity'. This past May, the company was among 91 corporations that supported the HRC's efforts to reintroduce the federal Equality Act in Congress. The proposed measures provide the same basic protections to LGBT people as are provided to other protected groups under federal law.
