IDGC of Centre - Voronezhenergo division commissioned an innovative system of thermal monitoring and control of a 110 kV cable line between substation 110/35/10 kV #30 "Podgornoye" and reconstructed substation 35/10 kV #13 "VPI". The system is based on the monitoring system of high-voltage cable grids PTS-1000 and is used in the practice by IDGC of Centre for the first time. It is a distributed temperature sensor, whose sensor element is an optical fiber integrated in the shield of the power cable. In real-time the system performs accurate measurements of more than 40 thousand points along the cable line. All the information about the state of the cable is transferred to operating personnel and dispatchers of the Grid Control Centre, as well as specialists of the diagnostics service of Voronezhenergo and used by them for dynamic load control of the high-voltage grid.

"The use of the new monitoring system allows up to 50 centimeters accuracy to determine the local hot spots of cable lines and prevent failures," stresses Deputy Chief Engineer of Voronezhenergo Alexey Burkov.

The system was commissioned in the framework of the largest investment project implementation in 2013-2014 by Voronezhenergo to double the power delivery to social and engineering infrastructure of Kominternovsky district of Voronezh. At the first stage the Voronezh power engineers constructed the XLPE 110 kV cable line from SS #30 "Podgornoye" to SS #13 "VPI". The second stage involves the reconstruction of substation 35/10 kV # 13 "VPI" with voltage change from 35 to 110 kV. The total investment in this project will be about 385 million rubles.

"Voronezhenergo is a leader in IDGC of Centre for the construction of 110 kV cable lines. Currently, the total length of high-voltage cable lines of the branch in circuits exceeds 20 kilometres," stressed Deputy General Director - Director of the branch Ivan Kleymenov.
