Specialists of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division in the first quarter of 2017 carried out a number of measures to prevent non-metered and non-contractual electricity consumption. So, for the last three months the specialists of the branch conducted 87 targeted raids, during which about 630 consumers were checked. During the inspections, the specialists discovered the theft of electricity with 191 physical persons and 27 legal entities. This amounted to more than 1.5 million kWh or 4 million rubles.

'During the raids, our employees draw up acts on violations, according to which consumers must compensate the damage caused to the energy company. The money must be paid in the statutory time, otherwise the branch will have to collect them forcibly in court. Violent violators are subjected to more stringent, but legal measures - power outage, administrative or even criminal liability,' commented the head of the electricity metering office of Smolenskenergo Oleg Bonadisev.

Smolenskenergo reminds that with unauthorized connection to power facilities, the quality of power supply to bona fide consumers is reduced. As a result of illegal connections, energy equipment may be damaged, which leads to power outages, unplanned repairs and investments of additional funds that could be used to develop and modernize power grid facilities.

Specialists of Smolenskenergo address with a request to conscientious consumers to report all facts of illegal connections through the round-the-clock hotline of IDGC of Centre - 8 800 50 50 115 (free of charge). Consumers who use electricity legally should understand that they pay for theft of dishonest consumers. Reporting known facts of violation of the law will contribute not only to preventing the theft of electricity, but also avoiding negative consequences.
