MRSK Volgi : Power engineers of Penzaenergo branch eliminated wire swinging on high-voltage lines

Employees of Penzaenergo, a branch of IDGC of Volga, PJSC (a member of Rosseti Group of Companies), installed icing and oscillation limiters for WGC 5-13 cables on 110 kV Kamenka-Pankratovka, Studenets-Pankratovka overhead line. This will protect the overhead line from vibration and so-called wire swinging and, consequently, reduce the number of emergency outages. The operations were performed in the area with the overall length of 3,200 meters. In total, power engineers of Penzaenergo installed 180 icing and oscillation limiters. A limiter is a metal weight with a mass of 2.5 kg that is fastened to the line cable with a special clamp. Today, such limiters are the most popular multi-functional devices ensuring reliable protection for overhead lines from weather impact and related phenomena. Up to date, 110 kV Kamenka-Pankratovka, Studenets-Pankratovka overhead line is the only line equipped with oscillation limiters. In case of detection of wire swinging on other lines located in the risk area, the relevant actions will be taken to improve their robustness.
