Prior to summer fire season, Ulyanovsk Distribution Grids, a branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC (subsidiary of Rosseti, JSC), initiated the campaign for improving fire safety of power facilities located within the area of its responsibility.
The fire safety inspections will be carried out at electric grid facilities both during the campaign and throughout 2015 fire season. Power specialists check the condition and availability of automated fire fighting systems, fire safety warning signs, personal protective equipment for employees and fire combat crews, including earthing for fire tracks. To fulfill the inspection schedule, UDG's professionals check power transmission lines, especially fire hazardous routes running through forest, agricultural lands, gardens and waste lands.
To prepare for high temperature season, power specialists implement technical measures aiming to prevent fire at power facilities. To eliminate the risk of exposure to ground fire, UDG's staff removes vegetation around transformer substations and power transmission lines, make fire dikes outside substations without concrete guards. Availability of unhindered access to fire hydrants, tanks and basins is another important goal of the campaign.
UDG initiates emergency response exercises jointly with fire-fighting units of Emercom of Russia for the Ulyanovsk region and representatives of executive authorities and local government on a regular basis. The exercise objective is to practice coordinated actions to ensure fast response to any process faults under challenging conditions. The above measures will mitigate the risk of faults at the electric grid facilities of the branch and ensure continuous power supplies to consumers of the Ulyanovsk region throughout the fire season.
