In order to increase the operational reliability of the power grid complex, Mordovenergo branch of IDGC of Volga, PJSC, has been implementing the program for clearing and expanding forest corridors in the protection areas of power transmission lines. Out of the 515 ha scheduled for 2016, forest corridors in 484 ha have already been cleared and expanded. Works were performed on 110 kV lines Yavas-Udarny, Sabayevo-Berezniki, Sosnovka-Udarny, Potma-Vad, Ruzayevka-Khovanshchina, Potma-Teply Stan.

This type of work is critical for assurance of uninterrupted power supply to consumers during the autumn and winter period for the avoidance of technological failures caused by trees falling down on wires and supports of overhead transmission lines. Personnel of the branch is provided with the machinery and equipment required for independent clearing of routes: petrol-powered saws and bush cutters. In addition, power engineers of the branch have mulchers - special machines that significantly accelerate route clearing and reduce the number of personnel engaged and costs.

Power transmission line routes are cleared up to the established width of the protection area. This involves cutting of trees and clearing of bushes under wires. Debris and wood are stored and disposed of at places agreed upon with the local forest ranger stations and heads of municipal districts of the republic.
