Johannesburg - As part of the company's commitment to nurture the dreams and aspirations of tomorrow's leaders, MTN is sponsoring a minimum of 22 delegates from its operating countries across Africa and the Middle East, to attend the 2013 One Young World (OYW) Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
In the past two years, MTN has sponsored a total of 38 delegates who are now active OYW Ambassadors in their countries. MTN sponsored 21 and 17 delegates in 2011 and 2012 respectively. This year, however, the company aims to step up its involvement by doubling the sponsorship to at least two delegates from each market.
The Summit, now in its 4th year, is a platform for young people between the age of 18 and 30 from around the world to debate and formulate solutions to pressing global issues. At the Summit Closing Ceremony, delegates graduate as One Young World Ambassadors, joining a global network of young leaders who are creating a positive change around the world. This year's Summit will be held from 2-5 October in Johannesburg.
Rich Mkhondo, Executive for Group Corporate Affairs at MTN, and Advisory Board member of this year's Summit, says: "We are thrilled to be a part of this great initiative. Even more exciting is that MTN is contributing to the enrichment of young people's lives, and towards making their future brighter."
MTN believes that OYW is a platform for young people to contribute positively to their society. "Many of the past delegates have had an impact in their countries on a range of issues, including education, climate change and access to health," adds Mkhondo.
The Summit is one of many platforms that MTN uses to connect young people across its footprint, and create opportunities for the improvement of lives of communities in its markets. Delegates wishing to be sponsored by MTN for the 2013 Summit can complete the application form on www.oneyoungworld.com/join/candidate/MTN. The closing date for entries is 24 May 2013.
