Community Focus for New MTR CEO
"Hong Kong is a world class city - anywhere you go you can
feel its energy and dynamism. It also makes one understand
very quickly just how important it is to have a truly
world-class railway service," Mr Jay Walder, Chief Executive
Officer of MTR Corporation shared his impressions of Hong
Kong when he met journalists today (3 January 2012), his
first day in the new post.
Mr Walder had spent several weeks in November and December
last year riding on all of the MTR's services including the
heavy rail and light rail systems. He also visited the train
depots, construction sites for the new railway projects and
the estates and the property side of the business.
"I appreciate the inter-relationship and strong connection
between the MTR and the community. We must not only work to
preserve that, but continue to strengthen and develop it," he
said.
While the MTR is highly regarded in the international
marketplace as operating one of the safest, cleanest and most
reliable railway systems, Mr Walder pointed out the need for
continued innovation and new ideas to create ongoing benefits
for the Hong Kong community.
"We have to continue to focus on service delivery for the
millions of people who depend on our service day in and day
out, while completing the new lines and getting them ready to
provide quality service from day one," he said.
Striving for continued growth in Hong Kong, the Mainland of
China and abroad for the MTR Corporation will also be an
important focus for Mr Walder, who added that: "There's no
standing still. Companies cannot continue to succeed if they
stand still."
