Modification Works

Members of the Sha Tin District Council and local community representatives came together today (7 February 2018) for a joyful ceremony to celebrate the completion of modification works on the Ma On Shan Line (MOL), which have been carried out under the Shatin to Central Link (SCL) project to pave the way for the future operation of East West Corridor of the SCL.

After five years' of modification works , the MOL has a brand new image with 8-car trains fully in service and platforms fully extended and equipped with Automatic Platform Gates, bringing a more comfortable and pleasant travelling environment to passengers.

"The SCL is a huge project of which the modification works for MOL were an important and challenging part. The platform extension, upgrade from 4-car to 8-car trains and retrofitting of APGs are all vital to the future operation of the East West Corridor. I am glad that MTR complete the works in advance as these upgraded facilities have been long-awaited by the local community. We are now all looking forward to the commissioning of the East West Corridor which will provide an even more convenient railway service to the residents of Sha Tin District," said Mr Ho Hau-cheung, SBS, MH, Chairman of Sha Tin District Council and the officiating guest at the ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Jonathan Leung, Government Engineer of Railway Development Office for Highways Department said, "The modification works have been successfully completed. I have to say thank you to the construction teams for the hard work and would like to express my heart-felt thanks for the full support and cooperation of the Sha Tin District Council."

"It is a pleasure to share our joy with the project teams, the local community and other important stakeholders at today's ceremony. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the teams for their dedicated efforts, as well as the local community for its support and cooperation throughout the MOL modification works. Our thanks are also extended to our partners in different government departments for their steer and support throughout the project," said Mr T M Lee, General Manager - SCL and Head of E&M Construction of MTR Corporation.

Under the SCL project, the East West Corridor will connect the MOL through East Kowloon to the existing West Rail Line. With the completion of the modification works on the MOL, passengers can start enjoying early benefits of the SCL before the commissioning of the East West Corridor in mid-2019.
