MTR Corporation Listed in Fortune's "Change the World" A Global Recognition for its Corporate Responsibility

In recognition of its high quality, low-carbon transit services and sustainable Rail and Property business model, MTR Corporation has been named on Fortune's "Change the World" list. Ranking 33rd, MTR Corporation is the only Hong Kong company among the top 50 global institutions recognised by the influential magazine for their contributions to solving societal problems with smart business practices.

The latest edition of the "Change the World" list, published since 2015, evaluates global companies across a variety of industries on three criteria:

  1. measurable social impact on one or more specific societal problems,

  2. the economic benefit that socially impactful initiative brings to the company, and

  3. the initiative's degree of innovation and the company's role in prompting other companies in its industry to follow its example.

Fortune praised the Corporation for running train services on schedule 99.9% of the time, and for its low train fares for commuters without relying on direct taxpayer subsidies. The magazine also highlighted the green bond issuance in 2016 which is contributing to MTR Corporation's endeavours to get greener with the upcoming generation of low-carbon transit projects.
