National Bank of Greece, as part of its strategy to expand and enhance its payment card acceptance and settlement services, announces its partnership with China UnionPay (CUP).

This collaboration will enable, in the very near future, China UnionPay cardholders to perform transactions in the network of NBG-partner retailers as well as the Bank's ATM network in Greece. In addition, contactless transactions with UnionPay cards will also be supported, for even greater convenience and speed.

The business partnership was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation on 7 November 2016 by Messrs. Wei Zhihong, General Manager and Head of Europe of China UnionPay, and Leonidas Fragkiadakis, CEO of NBG.

The payment cards of China UnionPay, one of the largest financial institutions worldwide, are currently accepted in 160 countries and regions at over 36 million businesses and 2 million ATMs.

As Greece is a significant tourist destination for holders of UnionPay cards, this agreement will enable retailers and other businesses to further strengthen their sales, especially in the country's tourist areas.
