March 08--PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Once again Burrillville, in the northwest corner of the state, appears to have won the snow sweepstakes in the nor'easter that swept through the region Wednesday into Thursday.

Burrillville had 13 inches of snow as of 5:45 a.m., according to information on the National Weather Service's website.

In Foster, near the Glocester line, 11.3 inches of snow fell, according to weather watcher and former television meteorologist Stacey Swift.

Several communities in Northern Connecticut and Central Massachusetts also reported more than a foot of snow.

The website had reports from only a handful of Rhode Island cities and towns, but by comparison, West Warwick had 5 inches as of 7 a.m. and West Greenwich had 4 1/2 as of 6:29 a.m. An inch was reported in Newport, while a half-inch was reported in Portsmouth.

As expected, the storm hit the northwestern part of the state the hardest. National Grid's website indicated that 14,911 Rhode Island customers were without power as of 10:30 a.m., most of them in the northwest part of the state.

Swift was among those who lost power in the storm. He was also without power for two days after last week's storm. Fortunately, he has a generator that can power his whole house.

"It's nice to have it. This year, it's gotten more use," Swift said.

He also lost power in an October storm.

The storm has moved away. Expect cloudy skies and a high near 39 in Providence. The wind will gust up to 35 mph. There will be little or no more snow accumulation, according to the Weather Service.

"Seasonable weather is expected tonight through this weekend."
