National Grid and Boston Red Sox Foundation Kick Off Community Relations Initiative National Grid and Boston Red Sox Foundation Kick Off Community Relations InitiativeCollege scholarships and community programs are the first steps in the partnershipApril 28, 2015, PROVIDENCE, R.I. - With a day of mural painting at Providence's Gilbert Stuart Middle School, National Grid and the Boston Red Sox inaugurated their community relations initiative of "Supporting youth who serve the community." More than 50 National Grid employees and their children, City Year students, Red Sox Foundation employees and Wally The Green Monster took brush in hand to paint a series of murals in the school's lower level. The next step in the initiative will be the awarding of $1,000 scholarships to 30 Rhode Island public high school seniors through the Rhode Island Red Sox Service Scholarship program. National Grid serves as one of the presenting sponsors of the program, which honors academically talented public high school seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to community service. "National Grid is thrilled to be able to recognize these young men and women for their contributions to their communities in a way that will help them further their educations," said Timothy F. Horan, president of National Grid in Rhode Island. "We are also very happy to establish this relationship with the Boston Red Sox and the Red Sox Foundation." "On behalf of the Red Sox Foundation, we are honored to partner with National Grid in supporting the many Rhode Island families and children in need, " said Gena Borson, Executive Director. "Together we are committed to making a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable members of our community." The scholarship recipients were chosen from the 90 applicants who took part in the program. They will be recognized during pre-game ceremonies at the Red Sox May 2 game at Fenway Park.
