Cobleskill Salon Moves To New Location With Help From National Grid Grant Grant Helps 560 Salon And Spa GrowAugust 27, 2015ALBANY, NY - Small businesses face many challenges when they are ready to grow. Until this year, Amy McCann, owner of 560 Salon and Spa in Cobleskill, NY, ran her hair salon out of her home on Mineral Springs Rd. as Amy and Company. When the business grew too large for her to continue there, she searched the area for a new location to rent or own. When she toured the vacant building at 560 Main Street in Cobleskill, McCann loved the location, but feared the cost of the renovations necessary to rehabilitate the building. Through National Grid's Upstate New York Economic Development program, McCann was able to receive a $25,000 grant which helped make the move possible. "I was happy to hear about National Grid's Main Street grant, but skeptical at first," McCann said, "This was a huge undertaking and it certainly helped us to manage our costs. The project would not have been achieved without the National Grid grant". The grant helped the new 560 Salon and Spa pay for a portion of the $100,000 total renovation cost. The project included gutting the first floor, replacing windows, doors, façade, electric and plumbing equipment. The project also made it possible to hire 12 new employees at the new location. In addition to a hair salon and spa, McCann now has a boutique for shoppers to buy skin care, hair care, make-up, candles, tea, and jewelry. National Grid's Regional Director William Flaherty said, "National Grid is dedicated to community development in the Schoharie Valley. Several of our Main Street Revitalization Program grants have been awarded in Cobleskill, Schoharie and Middleburg, as area businesses and residents continue to rebuild after flooding caused by storms Irene and Lee. Its businesses like the Salon and Spa that help revitalize downtowns and we are happy to help drive that". National Grid's Main Street Revitalization program provides matching grants aimed at the revitalization of critical Main Streets and commercial corridors in villages, towns and cities in National Grid's service territory. Application requests include the renovation and rehabilitation of commercial, industrial or mixed-use buildings under 100,000 square feet and development of pre-construction documents that advance an existing, community-accepted design plan, site preparation and construction of commercial or industrial adaptive re-use projects.
