NATIONAL GRID EMPLOYEES DISPLAY CULINARY TALENTS AT ANNUAL UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN KICKOFF NATIONAL GRID EMPLOYEES DISPLAY CULINARY TALENTS AT ANNUAL UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN KICKOFFParticipants Savor "International Flavors" and Help Raise Awareness for United Way of CNYOctober 22, 2014, SYRACUSE, N.Y. - National Grid employees and IBEW Local 97 participated in the company's annual United Way kickoff event, themed "International Flavors," at National Grid's downtown Syracuse office complex. Among the nine teams that competed for the winningest food entries, A2 Plymouth Rockers won best dip for its version of The Great American Dip. Dead Support won best dessert for a tasty churro cheesecake. Our Barbeque is Gouda won best appetizer for a smoked bacon BBQ chicken bite recipe that had event-goers waiting in line for more. "Bon appétit to everyone involved in making this year's United Way kick-off a huge success," said Melanie Littlejohn, regional executive of National Grid, Central New York division. "As chair of the 2014 United Way of Central New York community campaign I can't think of a better way to celebrate community and employee engagement and acknowledge National Grid's commitment to organizations supported by the United Way. The cook-off is a fun activity for our employees to show their support while enjoying some delicious, homemade food made by teams of co-workers." Attendees enjoyed samples of appetizers, dips and desserts that were prepared by teams of employees. All entries were required to have an international flavor. Media personalities Don Cazentre, of Syracuse Media Group; Jeff Kramer, of the Syracuse New Times; and Wayne Mahar, of CNY Central, participated as guest judges and sampled the entries before determining the winners. The cook-off was part of the United Way of Central New York's "Participate with Pride for Your Community" campaign. The organization recently named Littlejohn the 2014-2015 United Way of Central New York community campaign chair. The campaign kicked off in September. Since 2009, National Grid, its employees and retirees have donated over $3.5 million to the United Way of Central New York. "United Way of Central New York is grateful for National Grid and its employees for their continued support of our organization, community programs and initiatives," said Frank Lazarski, president, United Way of Central New York.
