National Grid invites local residents to a public drop-in session on Thursday 30 July to discuss proposals to prepare the former gasworks site at Station Road, Borehamwood

• Site once played important role in providing gas for local community

National Grid is inviting local residents to a public drop-in session on Thursday 30 July to discuss proposals to prepare the former gasworks site at Station Road, Borehamwood

Residents will be able to learn more about the work, ask questions and meet project team members at the event at Room 2, Allum Hall, 2 Allum Lane, Borehamwood, WD6 3PJ, between 3pm and 7pm.

National Grid met with residents back in February to tell them about their plans to dismantle the redundant gasholders and associated industrial buildings from the site. Thursday's meeting will be a chance for residents to be updated on how the work will be carried out and to learn about National Grid's plans to relocate operational gas equipment on site to a nearby location.

Work to clear-up the site will start in August 2015 and should be finished by December 2015. There is no immediate plan to develop the site, but it has been allocated for housing in the Hertsmere Local Plan. The removal of the disused gasholders is a necessary step towards making new development possible.

Nadia Dew, National Grid Land Regeneration Manager said, "The site used to play a big part in delivering gas to Borehamwood, but nowadays gas is no longer manufactured on-site, the gas holders are no longer used and only a small part of the site is operational.

"We are looking forward to meeting residents in Borehamwood to answer questions and let them know about our plans to prepare the site for a more exciting future."
