Fiber Glass Systems was commissioned to manufacture a treatment unit, as well as to design and manufacture the hydroxyl radical generator pipework located within the main fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) structure, for the Seabox™ subsea water treatment system. The treatment unit is one of three main components that constitute the Seabox module. The treatment unit was manufactured from high-quality, resin-infused FRP composite materials, with all components and tooling completed in-house at the specialized Plymouth facility in England.

The Seabox system enables water treatment to be done directly at the seabed and water to be pumped straight into the injection well. This will allow the operator to optimize waterflooding and improve oil recovery. The system's three parts-tray, still room, and treatment unit-are all made of FRP, which is fully corrosion resistant and able to withstand extreme environmental challenges. Weight and reliability were critical design components, as was the longevity of the unit when constantly exposed to subsea conditions. The treatment unit weighs 8100 kg and measures 8×2.8×2.2 meters, and will contain the equipment necessary for disinfection of raw seawater. Watch the installation here.
