Neste Oil improves its ranking as one of the 'hottest' companies in bioenergy

Biofuels Digest, one of the leading online news publications covering the bioenergy field, published its list of 'The 50 Hottest Companies in Bioenergy for 2013-14' this October and ranked Neste Oil 18th. This was an improvement of three places on the company's previous ranking, and Neste Oil was also the only Finnish company to be included in the list.

Innovation and achievements in developing bioenergy generation were important criteria in selecting companies for inclusion in the list, according to Biofuels Digest. The list is 50% based on votes from an invited panel of distinguished international experts and 50% on votes from subscribers of Biofuels Digest and Biobased Digest and voters on Twitter and Facebook. More than 100,000 votes were received this year.

Neste Oil's higher ranking this year highlights the reputation that it has built up as a leading bioenergy company through its major investments in the field over recent years and long-term development work on premium-quality renewable diesel. Over the last five years, Neste Oil has succeeded in creating a renewable fuels business that now generates more than EUR 2 billion a year in revenues and is expected to book an operating profit of EUR 200 million in 2013.

"During 2013, we have concentrated on improving the profitability of our Renewable Fuels business area and extending our feedstock base," says Kaisa Hietala, Neste Oil's Vice President, Renewable Fuels. "We have focused particular attention on increasing the amount of waste and residues that we use, and these materials now account for half of the inputs Neste Oil uses to produce its renewable fuels."
