Neste Renewable Diesel reduces carbon footprint of The Tall Ships Races 2017

Next summer, magnificent historic sailing ships will make a stop in Kotka and Turku during the Tall Ships Races 2017. In Kotka and Turku, The Tall Ships Races will offer a unique journey through time as Finland celebrates its 100th anniversary. In both locations, the electricity required for the event will be produced using Neste Renewable Diesel.

'It is wonderful to see that more and more events want to be pioneers and pay more attention to the environment. Electricity produced using Neste Renewable Diesel has up to 90 percent lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil diesel. What is more, the public can enjoy a cleaner air because the use of renewable diesel produces significantly less fumes,' says Kaisa Hietala, Executive Vice President of Renewable Products at Neste.

The Tall Ships Races is a friendly race for sailing ships which invites young people to challenge themselves, regardless of their nationality, skin color, religion or social background. More than half of all crew members will be 15-25 years of age. Some 3,000 sailors and more than 100 ships are expected to take part in the event.

Neste is actively involved in various events, helping to reduce their carbon footprint, and wants to offer more eco-friendly solutions to event organizers, also in the future. Neste is the world's largest producer of renewable diesel. Of the raw materials used in the production of renewable diesel, plant- and animal fat-based waste and residue currently make up approximately 75 percent.
