Here are some highlights from the January data for the Netflix ISP Speed Index, our monthly update on which Internet Service Providers (ISPs) provide the best prime-time Netflix streaming experience.

In the U.S., Bright House fell five spots in the rankings to 9th place with an average speed of 3.53 Megabits per second (Mbps) and Time Warner Cable fell two to 10th with an average speed of 3.39 Mbps. Meanwhile, Suddenlink and AT&T U-Verse both climbed two spots, to sixth and seventh in the rankings. Suddenlink posted a monthly average of 3.62 mbps, up from 3.52 Mbps, and AT&T's rose to 3.59 Mbps from 3.48 Mbps last month.

In Germany, Unitymedia Kabel, which had ranked at the top since we launched service in that country, dropped to No. 8 in January. Its average speed declined to 3.18 Mbps, down from 3.79 Mbps in December and a high of 4.17 Mbps last August.

In Ecuador, ETAPA rose two from last place to fourth, with an average speed of 1.84 Mbps, up from 1.51 Mbps last month and nearly double its speed of 0.96 Mbps in November.

The Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of prime time Netflix performance on a particular ISP and not a measure of overall performance for other services/data that may travel across the specific ISP network. Faster Netflix performance generally means better picture quality, quicker start times and fewer interruptions.
