Asbury Park, NJ - New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) and Interfaith Neighbors, Inc. announced the completion of three new energy-efficient homes (located at 32, 36 and 38 DeWitt Avenue) on the west side of Asbury Park, as part of their long-standing collaboration to provide affordable housing opportunities to deserving families in Monmouth County.

"Working together with Interfaith Neighbors, NJNG is helping make a meaningful and lasting difference in the communities we serve," said Laurence M. Downes, chairman and CEO of New Jersey Natural Gas. "Home ownership is the cornerstone of healthy, vibrant neighborhoods, and we're proud to help make this day possible for some truly deserving families."

The homes at 32, 36 and 38 DeWitt Avenue mark the completion of 38 homes through the Interfaith Neighbors/NJNG Home Ownership Program, and represent an ongoing collaboration focused on the redevelopment of Asbury Park's west side. The homes, which have four-bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms, feature high-efficiency equipment, appliances and lighting to help the families conserve energy and manage their energy costs. "Together, we're breathing life into vacant properties, improving existing housing stock and restoring the pride of the Asbury Park community. Moreover, we are providing residents the chance to purchase affordable, newly constructed homes, while contributing to the City's tax income," emphasized Joseph Marmora, executive director of Interfaith Neighbors. "By focusing our efforts on Asbury's west side, we can have a significant impact on the neighborhood."

"These homes represent the city of Asbury Park's continuing effort to partner with businesses and community organizations to help our residents realize the American Dream," added John Moor, mayor of Asbury Park.

The DeWitt Avenue project is part of a multi-year effort to improve the housing stock and provide affordable homeownership opportunities west of Main Street in Asbury Park. That effort began in 1996 with $25,000 in seed money from NJNG, along with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) HOME Investment Partnerships Program funding, which was provided through the Monmouth County Development Office. "At HUD, we recognize that decent housing and homeownership are pathways to opportunity," said Maria Maio-Messano, Newark field office director, HUD. "HOME funding creates that opportunity for hard-working families and helps stabilize the communities they live in, helping them to grow and prosper."

The construction of these most recent homes was also funded through the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs' Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit (NRTC) program, with grants made possible through the support of NJNG and other corporate donors.
