The New York Times today announced new trips and destinations for its popular travel program, Times Journeys (NYTimes.com/Times-Journeys), to now include 44 itineraries, visiting 37 countries and seven continents in 2016.

For 2016, Times Journeys will introduce the new vertical, “Women In Focus.” Travelers will join Times-selected experts for in-depth looks at how women are faring in places such as Cuba, Jordan and India, where they will learn about women’s rights in these specific regions and meet with key women involved in education, health, politics, business and non-profits.

In addition, Times Journeys in 2016 will continue to include a number of trips to areas of the world that ordinary offerings do not visit, including, for the first time, a trip to West Africa where travelers will enjoy a diverse range of activities from the potential to meet a local king to dinner with individuals from the UN and the American embassy, all while traveling in Benin, Ghana, and Togo.

Additional new itineraries and program highlights for Times Journeys in 2016 include:

  • “Turkey's Ancient Past”
  • “Hiking the Pilgrims’ Footsteps at El Camino de Santiago”
  • “Jewish Life in Central Europe”
  • “Tibet: In China and In Depth”
  • “Egypt: To the Land of the Pharaohs”
  • “Ethiopia: Ancient Lands and Religious Festivals”
  • “Grant and the Unexpected Victory at Shiloh,” and
  • “Cruising the Panama Canal.”

With curated content from The New York Times and dedicated subject-matter experts, travelers will be able to better understand the past, present and future of these complex lands. Each exclusive travel experience is inspired by Times content and led by a Times journalist or subject-matter specialist. Our inaugural “Women and Women’s Rights in Cuba” tour is led by journalist, writer and former Times editor Luisita López Torregrosa; science writer and Times correspondent Sandra Blakeslee takes travelers to the Galapagos; Times senior correspondent Alan Cowell guides visits to South Africa; and three-time Pulitzer Prize-winner and former Times reporter John Burns leads a tour of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Times Journeys's 2016 itineraries and destinations continue to offer our readers and other like-minded individuals the most unique travel experiences that only The Times can deliver,” said Michael Greenspon, General Manager, News Services & International, The New York Times. “With the introduction of our ‘Women In Focus’ vertical and compelling new destinations such as West Africa and Turkey, Times Journeys provides once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to gain exceptional travel experiences informed by the expertise of The Times.”

The New York Times is working with specialty travel providers Abercrombie & Kent, Academic Travel Abroad, Insight Cruises, Mountain Travel Sobek and Judy Perl Worldwide Travel to develop and operate these programs.
