Harry Herington wins Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® Award in
the Central Midwest, and the first "Charles Shinholser Award for
Volunteerism" from Concerns of Police Survivors
NIC Inc., (NASDAQ: EGOV)
the leading provider of official eGovernment services, announces that
Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board Harry
Herington was honored with two awards on Tuesday, June 5: the 2012
Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® Award for Technology in the
Central Midwest Region, recognizing that his vision has led the
Company's recent innovation and financial success, and the first-ever
"Charles Shinholser Award for Volunteerism" from Concerns of Police
Survivors (C.O.P.S.) for Herington's outstanding support of the families
of fallen officers.
"I am truly honored to receive both awards," said Herington. "Great
companies are measured beyond what they deliver to the bottom line -
they are also measured by the impact they have on their communities. I
am proud to be the CEO of a company which has proven that innovation and
volunteerism are the secrets to building a strong, successful company. I
am fortunate to lead the 700 employees of NIC
whose passion and dedication resulted in these two great honors."
In 1995, Herington, a former law enforcement officer, left a career as
an attorney to join the start-up NIC. Since becoming CEO in 2008,
Herington has led the Company in doubling its revenues, increasing the
number of state partners by more than 30 percent, and securing the
Company's first self-funded contract with the Federal government. In
2009, he created Ride4Cops, an
initiative to raise awareness about the inherent dangers of law
enforcement and to support the families of fallen officers. With more
than 20 rallies held at state capitols, the initiative has raised more
than $150,000 for the families of fallen officers through donations to
C.O.P.S. and other law enforcement-related nonprofit organizations.
The awards of June 5 add to the national recognition NIC recently
received when it debuted at number 20 on Forbes' list of the "25
Fastest-Growing Technology Companies in America." Herington was also
one of six CEOs featured in a Forbes study, "Inspired
for Growth: Lessons from Middle Market Companies."
