November 6-10 marks National Ethics and Compliance Week. For our company and many others, this is a time for employees to engage in activities that promote ethics and compliance, and also gives senior leaders a chance to speak to the importance of the topic. Not only is ethics and compliance good business but it is also a value add proposition for our company in many ways.

A strong culture of ethics and compliance affords us the ability to attract and retain the best talent, and helps us earn loyalty from our customers, employees and business partners. It also creates a positive reputation within the communities we serve. Plus, a strong culture of ethics and compliance is a foundation for sustainability, which many investors value.

At NiSource our commitment to ethics and compliance starts on an employee's first day of employment with an introduction to our Code of Business Conduct (Code). Our Code is principle-based and value-driven to aid our employees in making sound business decisions. And, it doesn't stop there. Throughout a career at NiSource, employees are provided with continuous education that supports our core values. Above all, we encourage our employees to speak up and seek guidance when unsure about how to proceed.

Our commitment to ethics and compliance standards and practices has gained us recognition as a World's Most Ethical Company by Ethisphere Institute for the past six years. This recognition confirms that our focus on ethics and compliance has been effective and demonstrates to our stakeholders that NiSource is actively promoting and maintaining ethical standards and practices.

We would not be able to achieve this designation or our culture of ethics and compliance without the continued efforts and commitment of our employees and business partners. With all the recent headlines regarding ethics issues at other companies, it is good to know that our company is so committed to ethics and compliance and doing the right thing.
