Progress Report: Nissan Ahead of Corporate Japan in Managerial
Opportunities for Women

YOKOHAMA, Japan (May 29, 2015) - Nissan Motor Co., one of Japan's leading companies and maker of automobiles sold around the world, is also recognized as one of Japan's most diverse corporations.

Today throughout corporate Japan just 3.1% of all managers are women. Nissan has set a goal of 10% of managerial jobs to be held by women by April 2017, and the company is closing the gap fast. As of April 2015, 8.2% of all managerial posts in the company are held by women.

In October 2004 Nissan established the Diversity Development Office to function independently from the company's Human Resource Department. At that time, the ratio of women at management-level positions was 1.6%. The current 8.2% represents an increase of more than fivefold. In Japan, Nissan now has 214 female managers, with one in ten female employees working in management-level positions. Proactive recruitment of women for management positions is carried out in all departments, including in engineering and production where the percentage of female workers is relatively low.

Within its efforts to promote women to manager/executive-level positions, Nissan is focused on comprehensive initiatives such as educating female employees and their managers, improving systems and infrastructure, enhancing career development support programs, fostering female personnel for executive positions and developing female employees at assistant-manager levels for future advancement.

"Diversity can enable Nissan to provide greater product and service value globally, is a key source of competitiveness, and will help the company grow sustainably."

-Hiroto Saikawa, Nissan's chief competitive officer
