Nissan to Co-Host the 14th National Wheelchair Marathon
'NISSAN Cup Oppama Championship 2013' in Yokosuka

YOKOHAMA, Japan (Nov. 22, 2013) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. will sponsor the 14th National Wheelchair Marathon, the "NISSAN Cup Oppama Championship 2013," acting as the co-host with several other local organizations. The special marathon will take place in the area surrounding Nissan's Oppama Plant in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, on December 1.

Marking its 14th year, the three-day event has contributed to the development of sports for people with disabilities and strengthened bonds between the corporate sector and local communities. More than 500 Nissan employees and local volunteers will work together as route marshals, as they have done every year since the first event in 2000.

Attracting about 60 athletes every year, including accomplished paralympians from all over Japan, the event celebrates outstanding sporting achievement. On the third day, athletes Masayuki Higuchi, Nobukazu Hanaoka and Wakako Tsuchida will participate in the race. The three competed in the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

In addition to the main race, other events will be held to increase awareness and understanding of disability within the community. At Yokosuka City gymnasium students of Yamazaki and Kouzaka elementary schools will be encouraged to try sitting in a wheelchair. A time trial in wheelchairs will be held at Nissan's GRANDRIVE proving ground.

Nissan employees may further their support of athletic organizations for people with disabilities by contributing to the "Taiyo Fund," which was created by the company for this purpose.
