SEATTLE, April 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Seattle-based Nordstrom, Inc. (NYSE: JWN) announced today plans to open a Nordstrom Rack at The Shops at River Walk in Bakersfield, Calif. The approximately 35,000-square-foot store is scheduled to open in spring 2015. The property is being developed by Castle & Cooke, Inc.

Nordstrom Rack is the off-price retail division of Nordstrom, Inc., offering customers a wide selection of on-trend apparel, accessories and shoes at an everyday savings of 30-70 percent off regular prices. The Rack carries merchandise from Nordstrom stores and Nordstrom.com, as well as specially purchased items from many of the top brands sold at Nordstrom. The Rack is designed to provide the ultimate treasure hunt to style-savvy customers.

The new Nordstrom Rack will be the company's first location in Bakersfield.

"We have a lot of stores in California, but until now we haven't had the opportunity to serve customers in Bakersfield," said Geevy Thomas, president of Nordstrom Rack. "This additional location will make it more convenient for customers who have been driving over 100 miles to shop with us. We look forward to bringing them a local store that will offer many of the same great brands we carry at Nordstrom but at significant savings."

Located just south of the Westside Parkway and west of Calloway Drive on Stockdale Highway, The Shops at River Walk, a planned 48 acre 500,000-square-foot mixed use development, will offer an excellent mix of fashion, specialty retail, and dining options amongst other retail and office choices. The first phase is already open with tenants such as Target and Aveda along with restaurants like P.F. Chang's, California Pizza Kitchen, BJ's Restaurant & Brewery and Eureka! Burger. The Rack will be joined by Sprouts Farmers Market, T.J.Maxx and a growing list of other national and regional retailers as part of its second phase of development.

"We are extremely pleased and excited to have Nordstrom Rack coming to Bakersfield and joining our line-up at The Shops at River Walk," said Scott Thayer, senior vice president for Castle & Cooke. "Teaming Nordstrom Rack, T.J.Maxx, Sprouts Farmers Market, and two soon-to-be named national tenants with Target and the other current stores will certainly add to the popularity of the center and a shopping experience that offers a wide breadth of products and services."
