Butte, Mont. - May 30, 2018 - NorthWestern Energy has finalized plans for its second Beyond The Dam bicycling and entertainment event in Great Falls on June 8 and 9, 2018.

The cycling portion of the event, on Saturday, June 9, will feature three bike rides of varying lengths on courses along the Missouri River. The rides will offer the opportunity to cross the Missouri River at several of the NorthWestern dams, which are typically closed to public use. All of the cycling events will be timed.

A roughly two-mile Family Fun Ride/Walk is free, as is a lunch afterwards. The registration fee for the nine-mile Intermediate mountain bike ride is $10, which includes lunch and a rider packet. The fee for the Advanced mountain bike ride of about 16 miles is $15, which also includes lunch and a rider packet. Medals will be awarded to top finishers in the two longer races.

Proceeds from the Beyond The Dam events will go to the River's Edge Trail, which works to maintain quality recreational trails along the Missouri River. More details and registration details are available at BeyondTheDam.com.

'Our goal with the Beyond The Dam is to highlight the river and the role our hydroelectric dams play in our lives, all in connection with a fun, family-oriented event,' said Josh Peck, event coordinator at NorthWestern Energy. 'This event is becoming an early-summer tradition, one that we expect to grow each year.'

New this year are a free concert and car show on Friday, June 8, at Giant Springs Heritage State Park at 4803 Giant Springs Road. The event will feature cycling packet pick-up, a classic car show from 5 to 7 p.m. and music by F.O.G. and the Bop-A-Dips, starting at 5 p.m. Fireworks will wrap up the Friday night event. Participants are invited to bring food, beverages, chairs and blankets.
