[New plastic retainer for high-speed rotation of dmn value*1 1.6 million!]

NTN Corporation (hereafter, NTN) has reviewed the material and shape of the polyamide plastic retainer of one of the ULTAGE*2 series of bearings, the "High Speed Angular Contact Ball Bearings HSE TYPE"*3 to develop the "High Speed Angular Contact Ball Bearings HSE-NEW T2 Type" with a higher speed rotational performance.

The rotational speed of machine tool main spindles is increasing with the aim of improving machining surface quality and machining efficiency of devices such as ultra high-speed machining centers used for the machined surfaces of moldings. In order to respond to faster operating main spindles, NTN has used phenol machined retainers in conventional products. To reduce the cost of main spindles, polyamide plastic retainers (T2 type) have also been used for low to medium speed machine models where a dmn value of 1 million or less is required, such as with lathes or machining centers.

The newly developed "High Speed Angular Contact Ball Bearings HSE-NEW T2 Type" uses a high melting point polyamide plastic instead of the conventional polyamide plastic to increase the strength of the retainer, as well as to limit heat generated by contact between the retainer pockets and rolling elements when operating at high speed. The shape of the retainer pockets have also been reviewed to increase lubrication performance of both air-oil and grease, while optimizing contact between the rolling element and retainer helps to limit heat generated due to its shape. These changes increase the high-speed rotational performance by up to 50% compared to conventional products using polyamide plastic retainers and achieve a dmn value of 1.6 million. Additionally, polyamide plastic retainers can also be used in applications with a high-speed rotation where phenol plastic retainers were used.

NTN will exhibit the developed product at "JIMTOF2014 The 27th Japan International Machine Tool Fair" held at Tokyo Big Sight from October 30 to November 4, and is proposing the bearing to machine tool manufacturers globally as a replacement for current models and for the development of next-generation machine models.
