Paris, France and San Jose, California, USA, November 4, 2014 - NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ:NXPI), a leader in secure technology and a trusted solutions provider for electronic identity applications, today announced that its SmartMX™ product family has been selected for Ecuador's new eID program. Working in close partnership with Instituto Geográfico Militar del Ecuador (IGM), the official secure document printer for the Ecuadorian government, NXP has helped Ecuador bring secure and multi-function national identification cards to its citizens and has established a deep understanding of the technology, enabling future updates to be implemented efficiently.

Ecuador, with a population of over 15 million, now has the in-country ability to deploy a number of digital public services to citizens, companies, and organizations. Besides being used for traditional identification, the new eID cards will also enable citizens to travel inside the Andean Community, perform electronic signature operations and access social benefit and welfare services provided by the Ecuadorian government. The new eID program also focuses on establishing core competencies in Ecuador for the continued development of digital services and, through close collaboration with NXP, IGM is now able to manage and drive the creation of electronic security documents, including electronic passports.

"The new eID program in Ecuador is one of the most ambitious and sophisticated programs we have seen in Latin America and we are proud to support them in their vision for enhanced access to services for their citizens. With over 100 countries using SmartMX technology for their electronic ID documents, our experience in this field is second to none - a fact clearly recognized by IGM who selected us as their technology partner for both eID and Passport," said Stefan Barbu, head of secure ID solutions for the Americas, NXP Semiconductors. "We are extremely impressed with the quality of work performed by the IGM. This project is a real example of how, when knowledge is shared and a common goal identified, great results can be achieved."

"Implementing any type of eID program is a real challenge, from understanding the technology to reaching agreements with different government entities in order to roll-out services. In line with our Government's policy to empower Ecuador's industry and to produce goods, rather than acquire them abroad, our institution has been mandated by the President to take this challenge and establish this core competency in Ecuador. In these scenarios a true partnership is needed and NXP clearly contributed to our success", said Ramiro Pazmiño, deputy director, Instituto Geográfico Militar del Ecuador. "NXP's ability to provide us with the highest levels of technical training and support in building a complete solution has helped us achieve our goal to produce in our facilities a state-of-the-art, secure, multi-function electronic ID card for the citizens of Ecuador."

Stefan Barbu from NXP Semiconductors and Ramiro Pazmiño from Instituto Geográfico Militar del Ecuador will present at during the sub-session: Security Documents & eGovernment. Their presentation, entitled "The New Ecuadorian Electronic ID Card: Delivering Services to Citizens" will take place on Wednesday November 5, 2014 at 4pm CET.
