Energy efficiency pays off for Gulfport at its new corporate headquarters

OKLAHOMA CITY - Energy efficiency technology continues to drive meaningful cost savings for new commercial building construction and renovation projects across OG&E's Oklahoma footprint.

The latest to benefit from this advancing technology is Oklahoma City-based Gulfport Energy, (NASDAQ: GPOR). Representatives from OG&E recently presented Gulfport officials with a rebate check for more than $237,000 for cost savings achieved from energy-efficiency projects implemented at the energy company's newly constructed corporate headquarters in northwest Oklahoma City.

'The energy efficiency technology available to commercial builders is advancing exponentially and delivering significant savings for utility customers taking advantage of it in new construction or remodels,' said OG&E Commercial Energy Efficiency Manager Forrest McGee, who provides consultative energy services to OG&E's larger customers. 'This installation uses a number of efficiency measures to drive savings while ensuring comfort and optimal work conditions. And if not for the expertise and partnership with Comfort Works and Van Hoose Construction, the project may not have achieved the same level of energy savings. We applaud Gulfport for taking this bold step and focusing on energy efficiency from the beginning of the construction process.'

To reduce the amount of electricity used for heating and air conditioning needs, the building uses 168 geothermal wells that provide 430 cooling tons and more than 2 million annual kilowatt-hour savings. The exterior of the building uses an ultraviolet reflective glass to block the sun. Inside there is an energy-efficient LED lighting system throughout the building along with a sophisticated Lutron control system that ensures that lighting is off when an area is not occupied. That same control system also incorporates window coverings that follow the sun around the building and automatically lower the shades as needed to minimize heat gain.

Gulfport CEO and President Michael Moore is pleased with the early results and complementary of OG&E's project support throughout construction.

'As a member of the energy sector, it was very important to us that we created a more energy efficient work environment at our new headquarters,' Moore said. 'We believe we have built one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the state of Oklahoma, and we're very happy with the support of OG&E.'
