Openwave
Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), a global software innovator delivering
context-aware mediation and messaging solutions, today announced that
Cable&Wireless Worldwide, a mission critical communications integrator,
has selected several products from Openwave's Traffic
Mediation suite to help it bring flexible, managed services, with
speed and agility to its Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) customers.
The products selected include Openwave®
Integra, Openwave®
Media Optimizer, Openwave®
Web Adapter and Openwave®
Web Security. With Openwave's Traffic
Mediation solution, Cable&Wireless Worldwide is able to offer major
enterprises and retailers carrier-grade solutions to guarantee
reliability of their services.
Openwave's Traffic
Mediation suite forms a component of C&W Worldwide's FMC solution
that converges fixed line telephone, data and mobile networks for its
customers, helping them to simplify their telephony systems and end-user
experience. All mobile calls made within C&W Worldwide's FMC customer
sites will run across an IP network making internal calls free and
external calls the same price as those of a fixed line. As people move
out of the buildings, calls will seamlessly transfer to a reduced-rate
mobile network. With Openwave C&W Worldwide ensures all data transfers
on FMC are secure and that traffic is optimized for better resolution
and to ensure that its next-generation network continues to cater for
the data requirements of all new smartphones.
?The need to manage network traffic is not just exclusive to the
operator network, but is a need that large businesses, including
retailers, are facing within their own networks,? says Nigel Stevens,
Product Director at C&W Worldwide. ?Major retailers have already
expressed interest in our managed services for data and telephony
networks, which suggests that managed offerings are resonating and other
industries are beginning to realise their value. We are delighted to
collaborate with Openwave to help bring more of these retail offerings
to market.?
?The recent interest in managed services by businesses outside of the
carrier world is underscored by C&W Worldwide's recent partnerships,?
says Ken Denman, CEO, Openwave. ?To compete in this new untethered,
all-IP-based information age, businesses need more control over what's
happening in their networks. Solutions such as Integra
provide businesses with the flexibility to select the deployment
architecture and features that meet their specific needs and rapidly
bring a variety of new services to market. Openwave is pleased to
provide our world-class Traffic
Mediation solutions to C&W Worldwide.?
Openwave
Integra orchestrates and mediates a set of mobile internet services
that are driven by a rich policy-rules engine, allowing each transaction
to be processed based on factors including user profile, device
capabilities, content and network type. As traffic increases, Integra
can rapidly scale to deploy new mobile data services across converging
access networks and devices.
Openwave
Media Optimizer is an intelligent, scalable, and policy-aware video
delivery solution that enables the reduction of data transmission costs
and works to improve the online video experience across any device. Openwave
Media Optimizer adds value to networks with intelligent, device- and
policy-aware delivery of online video content, reducing costs while
increasing effective bandwidth.
Openwave
Web Adapter takes content requests from mobile phones for standard
web sites and converts the web pages into highly compressed, functional
mobile phone-compliant WAP2 pages. Web
Adapter allows operators to significantly increase their data
revenues by enabling subscribers to access the vast majority of the Web
on their mobile phones in a mobile-compatible format.
Openwave
Web Security gives mobile operators the power to protect their
networks from viruses and security threats, and to protect their
subscribers from inappropriate and unwanted content. By implementing
multiple defenses against unwanted content, mobile operators can deliver
the high quality mobile internet user experience that their subscribers
expect while confidently launching new and innovative services.
