NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / January 15, 2018 / U.S. markets closed at record highs Friday, posting weekly gains, on investor optimism over the current earnings season. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 0.89 percent to close at 25,803.19, up 2.0 percent for the week, while the S&P 500 Index gained 0.67 percent to close at 2,786.24, up 1.6 percent for the week. 8 out of the 11 sectors in the S&P 500 closed in the green. The Nasdaq Composite Index hiked 0.68 percent to close at 7,261.06, ended 1.75 percent over the week.

"The economy is looking good, numbers look good, and companies are making money. This quarter may be a little messy because of the tax bill, but there?s so much optimism, so much enthusiasm about earnings," said Michael Matousek, head trader at U.S. Global Investors. "Things are really starting to take off, and the only thing that makes it scary is the idea that we may be culminating to a top in the market."
