SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Oracle Code -- Empowering developers to learn, innovate and deliver more value to their organizations, Oracle today announced new enablement resources and tools. Building on the success of its recent Oracle Code series, Oracle is expanding its lineup of events around the world. In addition, new materials in Oracle's developer.oracle.com portal and expanded GitHub participation will help developers stay on top of the latest architectures and methodologies for building next generation cloud native applications.

"Developers want to build cloud native applications using the latest technologies such as spark, Kafka, serverless, Kubernetes and Tensorflow. Oracle is constantly exploring new tools and libraries to drive this innovation," said Siddhartha Agarwal, vice president of product management and strategy at Oracle. "With today's announcements, Oracle is giving developers even more resources to stay up to date and build the next generation of software automation in the cloud."

Oracle Code

Designed specifically for developers, Oracle Code events provide insights and best practices for tackling development challenges and opportunities in the cloud. Over the last six months, Oracle held 20 Oracle Code events around the world, hosting more than 10 thousand attendees. In a survey, 88 percent of attendees said they would recommend attending Oracle Code events to a colleague. Keynotes, technical sessions and hands-on labs led by industry luminaries, community members and Oracle experts will feature sessions on emerging technologies from chatbots and machine learning to containerization and Java. New worldwide Oracle Code events are planned for 2018.

Enablement Resources

Oracle is committed to providing developers an open, modern and easy to use cloud development platform. To help developers stay on top of the latest architectures, methodologies and tools available, Oracle is expanding its online developer portal - developer.oracle.com - with more technology-specific pages dedicated to databases, Java and containerization. As such, developers have a centralized resource to gain new knowledge that will aid in the development of next-generation applications.

Oracle is also expanding its contributions of open source projects on GitHub, with Oracle employees now working on more than 250 repositories. They also support a constant stream of newly added projects, software development kits (SDK), command line interfaces (CLI), and projects that enable developers to leverage major open source technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Node.js, Javascript, and Java.

Oracle Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) also provide a free and flexible way for developers to learn about Oracle technology. They are created by Oracle product experts, and delivered digitally through a combination of videos, hands-on lab guides, quizzes, and course-specific discussion forums. Upon completion of each MOOC, learners earn digital badges that can be showcased on their social networks.

Oracle has a long standing commitment to open source and has invested significant resources in developing, testing, optimizing, and supporting open technologies such as Kubernetes, MySQL, GlassFish, Java, Linux, PHP, Apache, Eclipse, Berkeley DB, NetBeans, VirtualBox, and Xen. A Linux Foundation platinum member since 2008, Oracle serves on its board of directors and participates in a number of Linux Foundation projects, including the Open Container Initiative (OCI), Xen Project, Hyperledger, Automotive Grade Linux, and the R Consortium.
