Orica Limited : Orica Expects Significant Delay To Restart Of Australia Ammonia Plant
01/23/2012 | 05:21pm Orica Ltd. (ORI.AU), the world's largest industrial explosives manufacturer, said Tuesday it expects a potential delay of several weeks to the restart of an Australia ammonia plant.
Orica said it wasn't satisfied with the performance of one of the compressors at the Kooragang Island ammonia plant at the port city of Newcastle in New South Wales state.
"Orica will not proceed with the restart of the ammonia plant until we are satisfied that the compressor can perform as designed," the company said in a statement. "Orica anticipates this may take several weeks."
Separately, the company said it has successfully restarted a section of the Kooragang Island plant that was the source of an emission of hexavalent chromium, a toxic pollutant, on Aug. 8 last year.
Orica has been under close scrutiny following a string of other safety breaches at its Botany and Kooragang Island plants in recent months.
