Orica today marked the commencement of a two-year partnership with the Queensland branch of one of Australia's most well respected education not-for-profits, The Smith Family.

The partnership will see Orica support The Smith Family deliver its signature Learning for Life program in Queensland, focusing in and around Mackay and Townsville where Orica has offices that service customers in Queensland's key mining regions. The partnership is one of 38 initiatives around the world endorsed through Orica's Community Partnerships Program; and complements a similar partnership with The Smith Family in Western Australia's Pilbara region.

The Queensland initiative was championed by Brisbane-based Global Account Manager Clytie Dangar, who was inspired after attending a Smith Family event in Brisbane late last year as an Orica representative.

"Several student ambassadors spoke at this event and it was inspiring to hear these young people speak about how their success was directly linked to the support provided to them and their families by The Smith Family," Clytie said.

Alan Le May, General Manager for The Smith Family Queensland said that Orica's contribution would impact positively on children and their families in Queensland.

"The Smith Family provides vulnerable students with the tools that they need to succeed in their schooling.

"We know that by equipping young people with a solid education, it is a positive step to creating a better future for themselves and in turn, breaking the cycle of disadvantage.

"We couldn't do this important work without the support of our corporate and community partners and are thrilled to be starting our partnership with Orica in Queensland," he said.
