COLUMBIA, Md., June 14, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Osiris Therapeutics, Inc. (Pink Sheets:OSIR), a leading regenerative medicine company focused on developing and marketing products for wound care, orthopedics, and sports medicine, announced today that a new peer reviewed manuscript entitled “Open Surgical Implantation of a Viable Cryopreserved Placental Membrane after Decompression and Neurolysis of Common Peroneal Nerve: a Case Series” has been published in Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research and is available online.

The purpose of the published study was to report on the rehabilitative outcomes associated with common peroneal nerve (CPN) decompression and neurolysis revision when performed with open surgical implantation of a viable cryopreserved placental membrane (vCPM). Seven patients, who failed previous surgery, underwent secondary CPN decompression and neurolysis with open surgical implantation of vCPM. All patients achieved motor function improvement and resumed proper gait pattern with a return to activity levels of daily living demonstrated prior to injurious event. There were no infections or other adverse events reported related to the use of vCPM. At an average of 16-month follow-up, all patients showed no recurrence of symptoms. The use of vCPM wrap as an adjunct to surgical repairs of CPN injuries may contribute to the positive clinical outcomes.
