Outokumpu participated in the celebration of the 100 years of stainless steel in city of Sheffield, UK in the previous week. Sheffield is the home of Harry Brearley, one of the key inventors of stainless steel in the 1910s. The Centenary celebrations included a major international conference and exhibition hosted by the Sheffield Metallurgical and Engineering Association (SMEA) and the British Stainless Steel Association. More than 200 delegates attended the conference to listen to industry experts and key note speeches from Michael Fallon, Minister for Business and Enterprise, and the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg. Outokumpu CEO Mika Seitovirta addressed an audience of over 300 guests at Sheffield University on the theme of "Status of Stainless Steel in the World Today".

Said Mika Seitovirta: "The growth of the stainless steel industry during the past 100 years is an excellent example of the continuous innovation that Outokumpu and others have made to add value to our customers business. Stainless steel is truly a long lasting material and this is especially important today as we are facing the challenges of climate change and limited natural resources. The celebrations here in Sheffield showcase the important role that stainless steel plays in today's modern society. With our 100-year legacy in stainless steel business, Outokumpu will continue innovating new products and applications to help our customers manage their materials challenges."
