Outokumpu announces today that its new enhanced duplex EDX 2304® has received NORSOK qualification. NORSOK is a set of industrial standards for metals that are safe and cost-effective in oil & gas applications. Norwegian oil & gas industry developed NORSOK standards are intended to replace each company's own specifications and serve as references in the authorities' regulations.

EDX 2304® is an enhanced duplex grade that Outokumpu has developed for the offshore industry's needs. The industry needed a competitive alternative that would have higher corrosion resistance than 316L and would be stronger than the standard 2304 grade. The enhanced duplex grade EDX 2304® meets these needs.

"We have developed EDX 2304® specifically for the offshore industry, so obviously we are extremely pleased that it has now received NORSOK qualification. It complements our strong portfolio of grades suitable for the oil & gas industry," says Bernd Beckers, Head of High Performance Stainless Marketing at Outokumpu. Aker Engineering and Technology AS approved the grade according to the NORSOK standard M-650 Ed. 4. EDX 2304® is available in coil made plate, sheet and strip material.

Typical applications for EDX 2304® within the offshore industry are topside structural components such as fire, blast and relief walls and doors, structural pipes, pipe supports, clamps, or cable trays and ladders.

Besides EDX 2304®, Outokumpu products qualified by NORSOK are 22 Cr, 25 Cr Duplex, and 6 Mo super-austenitic stainless steels and titanium in plate, sheet, strip and bar.
