Owens Corning will showcase its portfolio of building enclosure solutions designed to help architects achieve resilient high-performing buildings at the AIA Conference on Architecture 2018, June 21-23, in New York City.

Experts from Owens Corning will present building enclosure systems that demonstrate the company's leadership in perimeter fire containment, sustainability and building science. In addition, the company will introduce architects to the Owens Corning Building Science Center, a new resource offering technical consulting and advisory services to architects at no charge.

'Owens Corning continues to be a leader in building science, introducing new technologies, declarations and services that are delivering a difference for architects,' said Carmelo Carubba, vice president of insulation strategic marketing. 'As building designs become ever-more innovative, healthy and resilient, Owens Corning is providing solutions to help make those new ideas possible.'

Efficient Buildings and Sustainable Material Leadership Continues

Owens Corning became the first company to market formaldehyde-free mineral wool in North America with Thermafiber® SAFB™ insulation. Now, the company is expanding its mineral wool leadership with new UltraBatt™ FF for the enclosure space.

Another first-in-market solution on display at AIA is Thermafiber® RainBarrier® Continuous Insulation, the first insulation to meet the requirements of SCS Global Services' certification protocol. The certification validates the electricity used to manufacture the insulation is 100% wind powered, which reduces the carbon footprint of these materials.

As the company with the most DECLARE labeled products, Owens Corning is presenting several products that have earned the LBC Compliant Declaration, including:

  • Thermafiber® RainBarrier®
  • Thermafiber® SAFB™
  • Thermafiber® UltraBatt™
  • Thermafiber® Fire & Sound Guard® FF Unfaced insulation

First Insulation to Earn U.S. SAFETY Act Designation

Several Thermafiber® mineral wool insulation products and supporting design and installation services are the first insulating materials/services to earn the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's SAFETY Act Designation. Retroactive to 2006, the designation provides architects with protection against liability related to acts of terrorism. It also protects related parties involved in perimeter fire containment systems including curtain wall manufacturers and fire-stopping contractors from liability related to acts of terrorism. After a thorough review by the Department of Homeland Security, the following Owens Corning® and Thermafiber® fire barrier solutions qualify as anti-terrorism technologies:

  • Thermafiber® FireSpan® 90 and 40
  • Owens Corning® Thermafiber® Safing
  • Owens Corning® Thermafiber® Impasse® Insulation Hanger System
  • ThermafiberInsolutions® Design and Installation Services
  • Owens Corning® Thermafiber® TopStop® insulation

During the #AIACon 'Happy Hour' today, Owens Corning will discuss the SAFETY Act and its implications for architects, manufacturers and fire-stopping contractors.

Perimeter Fire Containment in Action: High-Profile Projects

Visitors to the Owens Corning booth can learn more about world-class buildings built with the perimeter fire containment and building science expertise of Owens Corning. As the pioneer in perimeter fire containment, Thermafiber® insulation is trusted by 4 of the 5 tallest buildings in North America. Case studies of high profile buildings on display in the Owens Corning booth at AIA include One World Trade Center, 432 Park Avenue and Via 57 West, all located in Manhattan; as well as the Salesforce Tower in San Francisco.
