The rugged workhorse Model 567 is now more versatile than ever with several new product enhancements, including expanded PTO functionality when paired with the PACCAR MX-13 Engine, Peterbilt Motors Company announced during the Mid-America Trucking Show.

“The durable Model 567 is one of the industry’s most flexible vocational trucks with a wide range of spec options to meet the full array of customer demands,” said Robert Woodall, Peterbilt Director of Sales and Marketing. “We continue to enhance this product with new features and options that provide greater versatility and performance.”

Expanded PTO Functionality

Model 567’s equipped with the PACCAR MX-13 Engine and PTO capabilities will feature several improvements, particularly appealing for applications where extended PTO operation is required, such as refuse, oilfield and construction work.

PTO options are compatible with the full range of the PACCAR MX-13 Engine’s horsepower and torque ratings. “This provides an optimized package for top performance and reliability,” said Landon Sproull, Peterbilt Chief Engineer.

Among the new enhanced PTO features are:

  • Regeneration of the diesel particulate filter (DPF) can take place during PTO operation;
  • Shifting gears during mobile PTO operation does not limit torque output;
  • PTO operation time can be logged for reporting purposes;
  • Capability to activate external notification of impending DPF regeneration; and
  • Remote throttle while in PTO mode.

Additionally, body installation is facilitated through easy access to databus signals from the optional 12-pin, B-can connector found at the end of the frame or back of the cab or sleeper.

“Since its introduction, the Model 567 has been available with factory installed electric-over-air PTO controls to help enable customer installed, transmission-mounted PTOs,” said Sproull. “We also offer an extensive variety of factory installed Fabco and Namco split-shaft PTOs for higher output applications.”

In-Cab Battery Box

Peterbilt also introduced an in-cab battery box option for the Model 567 that has a disconnect switch with lock-out/tag-out capabilities.

“This new battery box position is ideal for our vocational customers where additional frame rail space is required,” Woodall said. “It provides more flexibility for our dealers and customers to spec vehicles that best match application and business requirements.”

The in-cab option places the battery box under the passenger seat, helping protect it from potential jobsite damage. It is specifically designed to hold AGM (absorbed glass mat) batteries and is standard with steel hold-downs.

The lock-out/tag-out feature helps stop battery drain and provides an additional safety measure during service and repairs by preventing the truck from accidentally starting.

Heavy-Duty Mounting Provisions

Another new option introduced for the Model 567 is heavy-duty mounting provisions, behind the bumper, without the traditional tow eye.

This new option provides all of the internal front crossmember assembly structure so no durability or strength is lost. Woodall said this option is ideal for customers who want to install aftermarket grille guards or other equipment.
